Workshops and Concert
Join the choir for the Los Angeles performance of Martín Palmeri’s Misatango, conducted by the composer himself and featuring an orchestra comprised of Grammy-winning musicians such as bandoneonist Héctor Del Curto and bassist Pedro Giraudo. The concert will take place on Saturday evening, August 29, 2026, at the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles (https://olacathedral.org/).
Blending the sacred text of the Latin Mass with the pulse and elegance of Argentine tango, Misatango—also known as Misa a Buenos Aires—is written in the style of nuevo tango -- a synthesis of classical, jazz, and traditional tango. The work is composed for a mezzo-soprano soloist, mixed choir, and an ensemble of bandoneon, piano, and strings.
August 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of this landmark work, first premiered on August 17, 1996, at the historic Avenida Theatre in Buenos Aires. It has since been performed more than 2,000 times worldwide but rarely in the United States. This event will be the first west coast performance conducted by Martín Palmeri, making it a rare and significant musical occasion.
